Term 2 Proposals

2012-01-03 12:55:00

Theatre With Teeth Proposals.

Theatre With Teeth is Exeter Uni’s biggest alternative theatre company and supporter of new work. After a successful term of completely NEW WORK we’re hoping to continue this with some fantastic new productions  in Term 2.

We will be holding proposals for our TERM 2 SHOWS on Friday the 13th of January in The Long Lounge. The deadline for entries is midnight on Wednesday the 11th of January!

As always, we accept:

  •       New Writing
  •       Devised work

  •       Adaptations

  •       Work not published in the UK before

  •       Anything else you can think of!

So if you've got an idea, come and propose it to us, we'd love to hear it.

Proposals will last approximately 15 minutes each in an allotted slot. You might want to include things such as how the rehearsal process will work, the venue you'd like your piece performed in, your proposed cast size, a brief overview of the narrative or the basis for devising.

Following that there will be an opportunity for us to ask you a couple of questions.

Please don't be put off by the process, it's always done in an incredibly friendly and informal way, it's basically just an opportunity for you to discuss your ideas with us.

If you'd like to propose please email hk256@ex.ac.uk with a short sentence describing your proposal, and I'll email back with a time slot. If your piece has a finished script please email that as well. If you can't make the given date please email anyway and we will try and arrange something separately with you.

If you want to ask any questions before hand, please don't hesitate to contact any member of the committee.

So get planning.

24 Hour Plays

2012-01-03 12:54:02

Hello Teethers!

Welcome to the NEW year; and the perfect time for NEW work!

Off the back of a FANTASTIC first term of theatrical treats; from immersive halloween horror, to beautiful new writing, to site-specific thriller, we are proud to be the biggest producers of new work on campus

And what better way to showcase the teethy talent for new meat, than with our second 24 HOUR PLAYS event of the year!

If you were lucky enough to be a part of the project before, or bore witness to the madness, you’ll know that this is a project that requires little commitment (comes with the territory!)

We will need you for just 24 hours, starting on the evening of Friday 21st January, the project culminating in performances on the evening of Saturday 22nd (end of week 2).

Once more we will be looking for enthusiastic WRITERS, DIRECTORS, PERFORMERS and PRODUCTION TEAM to take part (no experience required!)

This is a hugely fun project, and I can’t advocate it higher. Dates for interviews and/or auditions are as follows:

•       Interviews for Production Team - Saturday 14th of January (end of week 1)
•       Auditions for Performers - Week beginning Monday 16th of January (week 2)
•       Interviews for Writers/Directors - Week beginning Monday 16th of January (week 2)

Exact time and place are TBC, but we will keep you posted.

Come and get involved in 24 of the most creative hours on Campus this term!

Love The TWT Team xxx

Lost Words

What happens when a writer loses control?

In 1849, Edgar Allan Poe was found dying on the streets of Baltimore. That day a mystery was created.

Now the world of a long dead author is dragged into existence. Only those brave enough to venture forth have the chance to uncover the truth behind the legend...

Who will you turn to when those around you are as mad as their creator? Who can you trust when your companions seek to save only themselves? You have a world to enter. A choice to make. A story to create.

Initial auditions will take place on Thursday 6th October and Friday 7th October.
Performances will take place in week 6.

Unframed.

Heavily centred on photography and it’s social implications, Cat Sarsfield’s new play jumps from past to present to identify cause and effects of the deteriorating relationship between David, a recently deceased photographer, and his daughter,
Freya, who struggles to find meaning in his death.

Through music, photography and the spoken word, this debut play reveals the fragility of social relationships and the fine line between living and surviving.

Initial auditions will take place on Thursday 6th October and Friday 7th October.
Performances will take place in week 10.

Exposure: An Adaptation of Rear Window.

Based on the classic Alfred Hitchcock film, this site-specific thriller will be set in present day London and use two opposing buildings to tell the tense story of a man who suspects his neighbour may have murdered his wife.

In an online age of social networking sites and public profiles, Jack Stanley’s adaptation aims to scrutinise the increasingly intrusive nature of society and, through its unique performance set-up, bring out those voyeuristic tendencies in its audience.

Initial auditions will take place on Thursday 6th October and Friday 7th October.
Performances will take place in week 11.
